Can I fix my a hole in my guitar?

I have a full-sized acoustic "Stagg" guitar that I've had for almost a year now. Anyway, one of my friends was being careless and accidentally broke a hole in the back of my guitar on the upper right side near the top. It's about quarter sized and goes through to the inside of it. There are also a few noticeable scratches now. Can it be fixed? If so, should I get a professional to do it? Is the hole going to effect the sound quality (it sounds the same now, but idk about in the long run)? Would it be okay to put a piece of duck tape over it for now so it doesn't get damaged anymore? Yes, I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but this is my first guitar and this is the first major damage to it. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
